Vehicles towed by Louisville Metro are taken to various contracted lots throughout the community, no matter where or when the vehicle was towed.

If you think your car may have been towed, please call the Local Government Radio Dispatch at 502-574-3506. You can call anytime of the day or night. If you think your car may have been towed by a Metro Louisville Police Officer, please call the Vehicle Impoundment Lot at 502-574-7078.

To determine if your car has been impounded and retrieve it, you will be asked for your:

1. License Plate Number or Vehicle Identification Number
2. Title or Vehicle Registration.

To determine if your car has been impounded by the Louisville Metro Police Department, you will be asked for your:

License Plate Number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Once it is determined where the vehicle is located, you will need to call that lot for details on

when you can retrieve your car
the cost to get your car out of the impoundment lot
what is required to claim your car (i.e. ID, title, license, VIN number, etc.)

You may pick up your car during the following times:

M-F 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sat 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sun 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

If your vehicle is not located at one of the tow lots used by LMPD, it is possible that your vehicle was left at the scene or your vehicle may have been towed by a different law enforcement agency, such as Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Shively Police Department, St. Mathews Police Department, Jeffersontown Police Department, etc. You will need to call the arresting agency to secure the tow lot’s name, address and phone number. There are a number of impoundment lots used by the seven different major law enforcement agencies in Jefferson County. Remember to call the arresting agency first.
